Mike Velez is a seasoned procurement executive with 28 years of Bio/Pharmaceutical industry experience. He retired from Merck & Co. Inc. in the fall of 2019 after 28 years with the company having worked in both manufacturing support operations and procurement–strategic sourcing and continues to support the Merck procurement organization in a consulting role. Immediately prior to retirement, Mr. Velez was a Director in Merck’s Animal Health’s procurement organization leading the research and development strategic sourcing group. For 17 years, he led strategic sourcing groups in both the human health and animal health organizations supporting both manufacturing (across a variety of categories) and research and development supporting the business globally.
Prior to joining Merck, he served as a U.S. Naval Officer in the Nuclear Propulsion program, including three years of service aboard the guided missile cruiser, U.S.S. Truxtun, in various engineering leadership roles. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in civil and environmental engineering from Vanderbilt University.
